Ribbons...........

It's not quite a Halloween picture........but doesn't she look a wee bit nervous?

I love ribbons.......even as a little girl I loved them. Shoot, I love so many things....so I thought I would share pictures of ribbons today........no rhyme or reason.........just wonderful, colorful, whimsical pictures of ribbons........all types of ribbons.

Aren't these bright and happy? Some are gauzy and give you a feeling of floating, like this wonderful bow below..........

I know it looks like netting, but it is a type of ribbon........

Of course there are different types of ribbons...........
and these.......

Look at this display........isn't it soft and just makes you think of babies, kittens, puppies, cotton candy and fluffy clouds on a warm summer afternoon

Oh there are prayer ribbons too.........not familiar with the significance of these ribbons in these faiths.........but they are beautiful

and

Look at this photo.........again, the colors are wonderful, but the photo is just amazing too

There is a store in San Antonio that I could go and just spend hours in......it has the most wonderful yarns, ribbons, buttons.......you walk up and down the aisles and then back again and sure enough, there seems to appear something new that you didn't see the last time you walked down that aisle.......this picture isn't from that store.........in fact I can't remember the name of it......hmmmm, let me see if I can find it. Hmm, I think it is the Yarn Barn, and they are moving, but trust me, I am not going on a road trip again right away........I am still recovering from the last two!!!!

I do like flowers made from ribbons too........I like ribbon embroidery and my girls wanted me to try that........I just looked at them........like I can afford another hobby? What's to stop them from trying to do it.........according to both of them, they don't have the time......and they don't. I thought I was busy raising my three children, pretty much by myself, but my girls have two children each and they seem much busier that I was............

Here are the best ribbons of all..........

and last but surely not least is me......I must have been about 4. Now for years I thought I was Chinese or Japanese, because my mother, rest her soul, would make those braids so tight, that my eyes would be pulled into little slits.........honest. Come around 3-4 o'clock, just when my headache would be leaving and my eyes returning to normal, she would round me up and re-do them, so I would nice for my Daddy coming home..........sigh...........you know it's a wonder I have any brains left at all!!!!
Have a beautiful day.........share a smile.......they aren't as special if you keep them all to yourself.

Jabber Jaw time

It's getting closer and closer to the day.........

I don't have a whole lot to share today either...........BUT...........I have lots of non useful information.........like

BLUE-RINGED OCTOPUS
The lethal venom of the blue-ringed octopus can kill in minutes and there is not known antidote. This makes them one of the deadliest animals on earth........even thought they are the size of a golf ball

Now why do I share this information, well maybe some of you are going to some exotic and wonderful place over the holidays and I want to be sure that I have done my best to warn you of the dangers out there...........I want all of you to return safely !!!!!

It only takes one vote

SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. -- All it takes is one vote to win. Just ask a Tennessee woman who was elected constable by voting for herself. Angela Tuttle, 32, said her father encouraged her to run as a write-in candidate because no one else was vying for one of the positions in Hancock County, which is in northeastern Tennessee.Tuttle said her husband initially didn't even realize she was
running.
I finally told him about a month before the election," she told The Associated Press on Friday. Her husband didn't think she would win, but now he "just grins at her," she said.Hancock County election officials said 131 voters of the 674 registered in the 3rd District voted Thursday. Tuttle's vote was the only one cast in the constable race. She will be sworn in Dec. 1.The certified nursing assistant and mother of a 10-year-old son will help serve warrants and patrol neighborhoods in her district. She said her father, a longtime constable who won his own re-election in another district, will "show her the ropes."

Now see how important your vote is..........truly each vote counts. I don't want to bring this one up, but why didn't her husband vote for her????? Hmmm, something to think about, huh?

Oh I know you shoppers are going to LOVE this one.

On a crisp October day in 1857 R.H. Macy opened his store in New York City. He racked up sales that day of $11.06, and two years later his sales totaled $85,000 for the year. Santa made his first in-store appearance at Macy’s in 1870. In 1902, a new Flagship Store was opened at the current location at Herald Square.

Well according to the newspaper today is the day it took place, but the newspaper said it was in 1858, and the Macy's site says 1857......I think I will go with the actual Macy's site.............

Having lived in Why-oh-ming for so many years, can you imagine the excitement when I arrived here in Texas and saw that Macy's has satellite stores in many of the malls..........I was thrilled!!!!

Another history tidbit........today in 1886 the Statue of Liberty a gift from the people of France, was dedicated in New York Harbor by President Cleveland.

Here are some statistic facts about the statue:
Height from feet to torch 46.05 meters
Ground to tip of torch 93 meters
The thickness of head from ear to ear 3 meters
Index finger 2.44 meters
Length of nose 1.37 meters
Width of the tablet 4.14 meters
Weight of the Statue of Liberty Pedestal 27 kilotons

So that's it for today.......a little bit of this and a little bit of that..........hope you have a super Tuesday and get to share a laugh with someone..........

The wind is blowing today.......really blowing......something that rarely happens in our area of Texas. Now in Why-oh-ming, the north eastern part that I came from..........whoa, now we had some wind.....you either made up your mind to let the wind decide what type of hair-do you would wear that day.......or........you bought a year's supply of hair spray and used it so that your locks were turned into football helmets.........sigh..........
Yesterday we had Andrew's birthday party for all of his little friends..........whoa, forgot what a houseful of little 3 -4 year olds were like. Mostly boys..........we are talking some high energy here and actually the noise decibels were quite low, all things considered.......I was totally amazed. Just a simple party at home........they colored, they played outside on the trampoline, sandbox, or swing set, ate pizza, went back outside to smacked around a pinata, back inside for cake and opening presents.......played a wee bit more and everyone headed home........it was nice.
I am just jabber jawing away today......nothing special going on........went to preschool for Andrew's party there.......read a book to the children. The Little Old Lady That Wasn't Afraid of Anything.......I loved it.........I love reading to children. Made a new friend with one of the little boys in the classroom and all in all had a nice morning.............
Well, I am off to work on a piece of jewelry.........have a good day, share a smile with someone new today if you can.

Tick tock

I have been working on something new for my jewelry........want to see? Now isn't that just down right silly........I'm going to blog about it, so either you will click off right now or will just read like crazy to get to the pictures.......tee hee........

Quite a while ago, my friend in Albuquerque sent me a watch face in a nice surprise jewelry packet.........well, I have openly admitted that I am not over confident in my abilities.....working on it.........so I have saved it and saved it until now........I finally thought of a cool way to use it and then of course I HAD to order more faces to keep the idea going........OF COURSE!!! So here is what I came up with. Oh man, I bet someone else has already thought of this and if so, please know that I am not copying you at all.........I truly thought of this........so be kind........please.

I used good quality jewelry elastic and put lobster claw closures on both ends, added beads galore and attached a set of three to the watch face. One day you could wear sky blue, that same night switch to a beautiful white crystal and gold set and the next day look pretty in pink.......
Sigh, still working on the photography thing.........one picture good, the next I struggle..........what can I say.

The lampwork beads in the pink set are really cool,,,,,,,well all of them are lovely in their own way.....but I've been saving these pink for something special.

I am still trying to figure out how to click on the picture and get it to enlarge.........will take all suggestion and help.........

The middle watch has the coolest ceramic beads, red and black.......just sharp. The watch to the left is all done in black and the one to the right is black and olive/peridot green.......sounds kinda odd, but rather classy really.

They are all for sale, so if you are interested, just email me or send me your email and I will be glad to share information with you.........

Hope your Sunday is a happy one........

Found this article

Taking no credit for this article at all, it was posted on Yahoo and I just thought I would share it with you.........well, I don't want you to be that"bad house".....so just trying to be helpful......tee hee
Ok, I just re-read the article and I just couldn't leave it alone........I HAD to add my 2 bits.......so my comments will be in orange.......again, these are my opinions.

On Halloween night, some houses struggle with the idea of candy. There are good houses, and there are bad houses. The best trick-or-treaters know to avoid the latter. At the food site Serious Eats, we all love Halloween, but wish certain homes would just stop handing out the classically bad "treats." They weren't good last year, the year before that, or now. Our own Erin Zimmer put together this list of our top 10 Halloween treats that nobody wants...
Toothbrushes

Dentists and orthodontists should not be allowed to celebrate Halloween if they're going to get all tooth doctory on us. Do not bring your work home with you, folks! We all have a personal responsibility to brush, and maybe some of us will forget, but your complimentary bristles on a stick (instead of a Snickers) will not help us remember. It will make us despise you and your trade. I totally agree.......next.........

Raisins
Little boxes of stuck-together shriveled globs are not what little kids schlep around the neighborhood for all night. When they say trick-or-treat, they want candy that will rot their teeth, not wrinkled grapes. (Using an empty box as a kazoo-like instrument, though, is kinda fun.) Again I agree, I like raisins, but most kids aren't lining up to grab these little pieces of dried fruit

Candy Corn

The most polarizing candy of all. The fruitcake of Halloween; it just never goes away. If you love them, fine. But don't subject the rest of us haters to the sickeningly sweet triangle that tastes like neither candy nor corn. I am not a fan, but golly candy corn is as much Halloween as pumpkins.....since we aren't candy corn fans here, my daughter put them into vases to use as bases for faux fall flowers........really cute idea.

Smarties and Necco Wafers
These chalky candies are supposedly "fruit-flavored," but no fruit I know tastes like dust -- and makes everything eaten after taste like dust, too. Now my daughter will kill for a Smartie......and I don't think anyone besides myself even knows what Necco candy is......so this one is split in half for yea and or nay.

Dum Dum Lollipops
Usually, foods on a stick are yummy (corn dogs, ice pops), but Dum Dums just can't be included on that list. Not even if they were breaded and deep-fried and served at a fair. Puleeezeeee, oh pullleeeezzeee, don't tell Andrew this........I can move mountains with a Dum Dum......I carry them in the car and trust me it has saved many an emotional melt down......ok, so let's call it what it really is........blackmail.........I can live with it.

Apples
Long before "poisoned candy" scares, evil people were handing out apples instead of candy on Halloween. This disappointing "treat" is the main reason to avoid unwrapped food while trick-or-treating. Does anyone give out apples any more? Thought this one was very interesting.....

Tootsie Rolls
It looks like chocolate and sort of smells like chocolate, but the mini brown tubes are not real chocolate. They taste like watered-down chocolate, and have a chewy texture that will strip the fillings right off your molars. Man I love these little tootsie rolls........I do. Now I don't eat the b ig ones, but put a bunch of the little ones in front of me and wha-la..they disappear.......go figure. So please don't stop putting these in the bags on Halloween, because I won't buy them for myself and rely on this time of year to keep me supplies. Thank you.

Miscellaneous, Wrapped Hard Candies
Halloween is supposed to be a holiday for young people, not senior citizens who suck on hard candies all day. Something about the strawberry-shaped strawberries, gold-wrapped butterscotch, and peppermint feels past the expiration date. (These usually get set aside for Granny.) Thumbs down on these little lumps of hardness....and I am the Granny in this house and don't be pawning them off on me!!!!

Laffy Taffy
I do not laffy when I get these. I sobby. I get depressedy. Because it gets all stucky to my teethy and doesn't even taste that goody. I am pretty sure my oldest grandson like Laffy Taffy.....hmmm, will have to check that out.........so again, can't go positive or negative on this sweet.

Anything Fun-Sized
Who started calling it this? Since when is one bite fun?! Give us the rich houses with the sprawling driveways and full-sized candy bars any day. Portion control doesn't need to start this young. Hmmmm, I guess I don't get this one..........with the economy and all, I am all in favor of these little bite size goodies......maybe we aren't trick-or-treating in the right neighborhood, do some people hand out 468, 385, 901 regular size candy bars to nurses, scarecrows, football players, fairies and Darth Vadars????

Ok, again this was an article that I read on Yahoo and wanted to share.........a semi sorta cop out for a blog, but interesting, well I thought it was.......hope you are having a good day..........

Home Alone

Isn't that quilt just wonderful? I can't even imagine the time it took to make this.......more patience than I have, that's for sure.

Home alone, yup, that's what I am going to be tonight..........home alone. Oh, and I won't be brewing up any concoctions like our friendly female above......grown-up kids going on a dinner date, and the boys are going to the gym for a Halloween fun night. I would like to go to a movie.......The Secret Life of Bees......but finances are telling me to stay home......sigh.......so I shall. I will have plenty to keep me busy, trust me, I am never lacking for things to do. I remember growing up, if you stayed home on a Friday or Saturday night......well, you were just doomed. If you even spent the night or had someone spend the night with you at your house for a sleep over, that was fine...........but to stay at home with your parents.........oh gosh........you just hoped and prayed that no one found out.........
I wandered yesterday for a few minutes in blogland and found someones blog........man I didn't mark it so I can't share it.......sorry, but they had received a fairy door.............oh man, now that got my attention right away........so I looked them up...........here is the site
http://www.whimsicalfairygarden.com/ there are four to choose from, but after looking on the internet, I found quite a few sites.......and I like these too
www.miniature-gardens.com/wood-fairy-doors.html now these are cute too, but they do seem to be more for outside in the garden type of thing.......now if I had my own garden with the ferns and such, I definitely would have a few of these little houses stuck in them......I would. The first site (and I have no idea why it won't turn click able for you.......another computer mystery) those doors you could put in your bedroom or outside.........so if and when I feel that I can splurge the $$ for one, I do think I will.........of course knowing me, I will forget all about it by then...........tee hee.
Well since I have been slacking off today...... a load in the washer, a load in the dryer, more to do.....the dishwasher still needs to be unloaded and a rather large mess on the kitchen table, I better close and accomplish SOMETHING completely........
Have a good day..............

Some cool blogs

Good morning.......no preschool today......so I can get to my blog earlier.......yeah!

I confess openly that if I start to wander down the streets of blog land I get totally lost......totally. Unlike Hansel and Gretel, I don't have any bread crumbs to scatter to follow home, so I just make my mind up to enjoy the different addresses that I find........in my travels I have come across some really special blogs.........today I would like to share some more of these with you.......ready, hey put away the map, trust me, with me behind the wheel, a map isn't going to help!!!

http://leanneshouse.typepad.com/leanneshouse/ This wonderful artist is having a give away for a beautiful and charming stitchery pattern........I have to go back and sign up....don't let me forget to do it, ok?

The next blog that I visit constantly is done in French......which surprisingly I can pick up a few words here and there when I visit......

http://ofilde.canalblog.com/ no comments, stories, or advice........just the most romantic and beautiful pictures that make me feel so wispy and small........a feeling that seldom can be used in the same sentence with my name............. no this pictures isn't this artist's work, it's just how her/his pictures make me feel.

http://velvetstrawberries.typepad.com/andreasingarella/
This blogger has lots of bling......and a beautiful Etsy shop too...I love to read and see all of the things that she creates.......right now she is taking a small break..........but there are lots and lots of posts to read and enjoy.

The next blog is a daily read for me........truly.........she always has the most interesting subjects, places that she visits (and she goes to some really cool places) things to make.........

Well there are four new spots to visit...........but please don't forget to come back here too.......I would miss you if you were gone to long........have a good day........smile, giggle, laugh right out loud.........it just makes you feel good

Was I a rebel???

I shared with you a while back that I try to read the little section on celebrities birthdays......well guess whose birthday it is today. Annette Funicello! She is 66. Now I don't think that is earth shattering news, guess I thought she was younger than that When the Mickey Mouse club arrived on the television screen and a bajillion kids would plop down in front of their black and white televisions every night to hear the group of mouseketeers sing their way into our homes, informing us that is was
Monday: fun with music day

Tuesday: guest star day

Wednesday: anything can happen day

Thursday: circus day

and

Friday: talent roundup day
My goodness, it was a busy week, huh? Now most every young girl had her favorite........and most chose Annette.
Annette, as I mentioned is now 66 and living with MS.....a cruel disease that hits more people than we know.

Now as I mentioned, I picked a different mouseketeer........I chose Darlene.

Now it seems that Miss Darlene took a road that surprises me........
In November 2005 she, along with present husband was again indicted on federal charges, this time for fraudulently submitting multiple claims in the settlement of a class-action lawsuit.

Now we will go to the Beatles..........does anyone remember when they arrived, the Ed Sullivan show (my girlfriend a budding photographer actually took pictures of the television screen and had quite the little business going selling the pictures of the Beatles on the show!!!!)

Well most of the girls were swooning and fainting over John and Paul..........well you guessed it, not me........my heart throb was Ringo..........still enjoy his singing and humor.........have seen him on a few talk shows and he just cracks me up.

So when we all turned 16, didn't most of you just want the family car and drive and drive and drive and drive? Me, I wanted my license, I did, but driving was never that fantastic to me.......to this day I would much rather be the passenger. Listen to this one, I used my Mum's car, which was a wonderful 4 seater white Thunderbird..........classy all of the way. The Beach Boy song, " She'll have fun fun fun, til her Daddy takes the T-bird away" was so true for me.

So who were your favorites of your youth?

I don't know why I thought of all of this.........goodness if I start trying to figure that one out it will take days............

Have a good day..........smile and giggle............
